Everything you need to know about industrial refrigeration and how it works

The industrial refrigeration market all over the world has experienced steady growth in the past few years. COVID-19 has indeed disrupted every industry, but the commercial cooling market has not halted. Commercial refrigeration includes various types of processes and machinery. These are essential components of different industries, from construction to food processing. Industrial systems consume a lot of electrical power. This is why installing insulated panels inside cold rooms can maintain the optimal temperature and lower the energy bills.

What is industrial refrigeration? These are machines that utilize the chilling procedure to release heat from a specific item. This system is most commonly used in industries that include food processing, brewing, and construction. It works like refrigeration at home using the refrigeration cycle. A specific operation takes place during the heat transferring to create chill conditions.

The refrigeration cycle explained

So, here are the 4 main components of a commercial refrigerator:

Refrigerants: These are various liquids that help in transferring heat from one area to another. All of these take new forms when the pressure and temperature alter them. For instance, as the system gets heated, it converts to vapor. Again, as it cools down, the gas goes back to liquid form. This helps in the heating and cooling procedure. Some of the popular refrigerants are ammonia, R134, R134a, which do not contain halogen. Non-toxic gases keep the environment clean and the air safe to inhale. Again, ammonia has a better capability of absorbing heat better. Some other refrigerants are used, which could include hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide, and fluorocarbons.

The condenser: As soon as the refrigerants leave the compressor, it enters the condenser, also called the coil. The condenser remains outdoors, and the coil is exposed to cold items or environments. This bars the refrigerant from releasing heat. When the heat is released, the refrigerant condenses and transfers into a liquid state. The aim here is that when the refrigerant leaves the condenser, it should be cool and have the same pressure.

Compressor: The refrigerant turns into a vapor state due to heat; it gets into the compressor. This component raises the temperature and pressure of the vapor. The temperature always needs to be higher compared to the condensing fluid for an uninterrupted refrigeration cycle.

Metering device: The refrigerant gets into this device post leaving the compressor. This slows down the rate of flow of the refrigerant into the evaporator. Also, it helps in lowering the pressure. This device acts as a valve between the high- and low-pressure parts of the cooling system.

Evaporator: This is the last stage of the commercial cooling system, and here, all excess heat is absorbed. This is just like the condenser, but here the evaporation of refrigerant takes place.

Why are sandwich panels for cold storage considered a perfect insulation solution?

Commercial refrigeration keeps edible ingredients, medicines, and other perishable items cold for convenience. Commercial refrigeration systems use modern methods and technologies to remove heat. The main science that works is insulation. The better the insulation, the colder it is. These cooling units are very important in areas that experience tropical climates where days are extremely hot and nights are comparatively cooler. Most businesses in the Middle East depend on commercial refrigerator units. Usually, such cooling units are larger.

Insulated cold store panels

Also, there could be a walk-in unit where you could pile perishable food items. If you have cold storage, you are required to ensure that it is well-insulated. This is where sandwich panels come into play. These panels are used to construct insulated walls and roofs. These panels are incorporated while installing cold storage, offices, shopping malls, distribution centers, sports complexes, and more. TSSC sandwich panels in Saudi Arabia is the ideal choice for thermal insulation

In places like Saudi Arabia, insulation is very important due to extreme weather conditions. Commercial spaces and storerooms need insulation to preserve perishable items. In the UAE, refrigerated warehouses have increased in recent years and the need for perfect insulation has led people to find out more about the super-functional sandwich panel.

Sandwich panels – an ideal choice for roofing and cladding

The sandwich panel has a 3-layered structure. With a low-density core and a thin skin layer that’s bonded at each side, the panels are lightweight and have a highly rigid structure. These panels are used for building and construction purposes. The sandwich panels in Saudi Arabia are most commonly used for roofing and cladding. The panels can be used in construction works like logistic buildings, office buildings, sports facilities, cold stores, freezers, warehouses, malls and so on. Everything you need to know about cold store panels and cold room insulation

Cold weather is best for animals who need to store their food for the future. Similarly, humans have adopted this concept and now the usage of cold storeroom has come into being. Cold rooms play a very important part in businesses that deal with perishable items. A cold room is nothing but a huge storage facility. You can store perishable commodities in a cold room like food products, beverages, raw materials and medicines.

There are different kinds of cold rooms and a lot depends on the storage requirements to decide what kind of cold rooms are best suited for you. However, cold store rooms can be customized and modified according to the requirements. One such modification of a cold room is by adding cold store panels for insulation.

So, what are cold store panels and how do they help in insulation?

The insulated cold store panels are formed by injecting polyurethane foam in between metal cladding at a very high density. These panels have monolithic construction and can maintain temperature and humidity inside the structure. These panels can be used for the walls, rooftop and even on the flooring. You can use these panels not only for the cold rooms, but also for refrigerated vehicles.

Here are the types of insulated panels used in the cold rooms

  • Expanded Polystyrene Insulated Panels
  • Polyurethane Insulated Panels
  • Compressed Straw Core Insulated Panels

Installation of the cold store panels

The installation process of the cold store panels depends on the type and size of cold room storage. These panels are ideal for cold rooms that occupy a large space. You will have manufacturers providing you with kits with complete description about installing these panels. However, you can also have the construction workers help you with the installation. For installation you would need:

  • Cold store panels
  • Measuring tape
  • Screws and screwdriver
  • Allen key

Firstly, it is crucial to get the perfect type of panel for your building. TSSC experts in the UAE ensure that you have the right panel for your cold storeroom. The right thickness and the right size can make all the difference. We have a team to take the measurement of the walls, ceiling, etc. Incase you are taking the measurement, make sure you have the right measurements with you. Don’t miss out on any spot, any small mouse hole, and etc.

The installation process is very simple. Contractors require an Allen key, screws and screwdriver. The panels are cut to the exact size and the workers fit the panels perfectly covering every space and every inch of the wall, floor or rooftop. Any gaps would mean air loss.

The panels have high-redundancy

Insulated cold store panels can provide stability and strength to cold rooms. This technology is popular in the UAE because of its eco-friendly and economical nature. Apart from thermal insulation, cold rooms should be able to control grease, dust and bacteria. So, choose wisely and go for panels with a minimum R-value of up to 40. This ensures that the thermal efficiency is good enough for the storeroom. Also, check the thickness and weight of the panels before you decide on one.
